Delphi Curriculum
The Delphi Curriculum creators, Heron Books, established in 1976, is a research and development team that publishes cutting-edge K-12 educational materials for the Delphi Schools to fit its unique competency/proficiency based educational methods. Its purpose is to create a high-quality curriculum for the Delphi Program®, and educator resources and training materials.
Heron Books operates under a corporate umbrella with the founding Delphian School in Oregon, and its offices are located on the Delphian campus. Their team of writers, artists, sales and production staff all assist in academic or extra-curricular activities within the school, while also collaborating with all the Delphi Schools faculty nationwide, in the ongoing development of new and better books and learning materials. This unique collaborative relationship allows Heron Books to test and refine materials through work with actual students and teachers, to keep our curriculum fresh and updated for workability and results.
What sets our curriculum apart?
The goal of Heron Books is about more than just creating high-quality books, but books that create real engagement. This is what they have to say about it:
“To this end, every book we create, if it isn’t already an activity book or workbook, has an accompanying learning guide designed to foster thought and participation. We want students doing things, interacting with the world around them, putting information into action. Effective learning guides, in conjunction with interesting and attractive books, invite these things.
If a student is doing something as a result of our materials, we’re on the right track. If a student is just collecting facts, soon to be forgotten, we’re not.
How do we know when we’re doing it right? It’s when we are effectively engaging students who are gaining information and skills and using them in their lives.
American author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard (1911–1986) researched and wrote extensively on the subjects of study, learning and education. His works on these subjects have informed the design of all Heron Books materials since 1976. Our gratitude is boundless.
Additional thanks go to Applied Scholastics International for the right to use his writings on morals, ethics, education and administration in Heron Books materials.”
